OUR PRODUCTION

The production of cashmere yarn is a long and complicated process that includes several steps which are equally important when producing cashmere garments. To produce a cashmere sweater after the yarn is spun takes around 5 hours. Read more about the whole process from goat to sweater below.

WOOL COLLECTING PROCESS

The goats are being combed or trimmed once a year, during spring, when the weather is getting warmer. Often, two people or more are trimming one goat, this to shorten the wool collecting process and reduce stress for the goats.

WASHING & DRYING THE WOOL

When the wool has left the goat farm, the washing and drying factory receive it. There, the wool is being washed thoroughly (approximately 6 times), over and over again before it’s being dried. The clean and dry wool is then checked by hand to ensure that no other objects are stuck in it, it can be anything from dirt, grass, small stones or other objects.

SEPARATING THE LONG FIBERS FROM THE SHORT

Before the wool can be spun into yarn, the long fibers needs to be separated from the short. This is called “Dehairing” and this is an important part of the process. The long fibers are both softer and finer than the short fibers and enhances the quality of the sweater. The long fibers also reduces the risk of pilling.

COLORING YARN

The cashmere wool are then dyed into the desired color. Bright colors like beige, grey or white are very close to the color range of undyed yarn and can therefore sometimes feel a bit softer than black and navy as they are requiring a stronger dyeing process.

WOOL BEING SPUN TO YARN

In this process the colored wool is being twisted and spun into the yarn that later on is being used to knit the garments.

KNITTING

The knitting can finally start! The parts of the sweater or garment are knitted separately in a knitting machine. For example: The front is of a sweater is knitted in one piece and the back in one. The sleeves are also being knitted separately.

LINKING

The knitted parts of the garment are being linked together. This part is called “Linking”. This step of the process is one of the most time consuming steps, as it is always done by hand and requires high concentration.

WASHING

When a cashmere garment is knitted and linked together it is not yet very soft. To get the soft, fluffy and characteristic feeling of cashmere, the garment has to be washed one last time. All colors and yarns reacts differently in this washing process so it is extremely important to find the correct length and temperature for the particular garment being washed. If you fail here the garment can either shrink or simply not be as soft as you wish.

IRONING

The garment is being steamed with a steam iron to get the final correct measurements in place.

NECK LABEL

The neck label is being sewed on by hand.

PACKING

The garments are being folded, packed into small bags and then put down in cardboard boxes before they are shipped to us.
